Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working with NBC News in Washington D.C. she is a TV anchor. She received an undergraduate degree in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing to be a part of New York City. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist with KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. She joined the CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Two years later she became an general reporter at NBC News in Washington. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She was named Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs correspondent at NBC News in 1994. Mitchell has appeared at times on TV news show Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She joined the panel during 1988's presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was the previous chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her work to defend First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered for the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988 throughout both Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news stories like arms control, budget tax reforms and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended numerous summits as part of the President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
